To Know Love is To Know Jesus

What comes to your mind when you hear the name of Jesus? Ponder His name for a moment, what thoughts, feelings, memories, Scriptures, prayers, worries, etc. come to mind as you meditate on His name?

Who is He to you? What is He to you? After thinking through these questions, what one word describes how you feel about the name of Jesus?

Watch this video: What a Beautiful Name it is

The writers of this song describe the name of Jesus like this:

What a beautiful Name it is
What a wonderful Name it is
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus

Listen to how they describe their thoughts behind these lyrics.

“As Jesus reveals the great mysteries of God, we come to know more of who God is, glimpsing new facets of His beauty, wonder and power. “Beauty” evokes the tenderness of His love and sweetness of His presence. “Wonder” speaks to our gratitude for salvation, awe at the lengths of His sacrifice. “Power” affirms His supremacy and Sovereignty—an exhortation to remember our access to the power of God in every situation, as we call upon and declare the Name of Jesus.” (read more Here

These words speak of the heart for Jesus that the apostle John desires all believers to have. Over the past few weeks we have spent time looking into the book of 1 John and exploring the message of God’s grace to us in the person of Jesus Christ. To Know Love is to know Jesus Christ.

John writes that God revealed Himself in the incarnation of Jesus Christ for the purpose of redeeming mankind. Jesus is the Light that shines brightly into our darkness. He is Love that pursues us and forgives us. He desires us to walk with Him and to be with Him. How can we read these passages and not fall deeper in love with Him.

This week, as we conclude the book of First John we will spend time singing worshipful songs to Him. Worship is to be an expression of love to our Savior. Can we allow ourselves to be caught up in the beauty of his majestic love and the sweetness of His presence? Can we lose ourselves in the wonder of His sacrifice and gratitude for salvation? Can we affirm boldly that He is first in our lives and has the power to bring victory and salvation in every circumstance?

This is the heart of worship, to love Jesus Christ and long to be in His presence with His people.
