RECREATION – refreshment
of strength and spirit after work; a means of refreshment or diversion.
Tonight’s youth group outing is intended as a means of
recreation: to encourage refreshment of strength and spirit in our group.
Summer is busy. Schedules can be crazy. Routine can be burdensome and hindering
of growth.
Friendships are not forced, but provided the right fun
environment they blossom. This week we are going mini golfing. Always a fun
activity, but a way of getting to know each other through a fun activity is important.
Plus, I am throwing a few twists in the traditional game, some team building
opportunities.
It’s more than a game, it’s more than friendly competition,
it’s an experience together. Youth group activities, camps and retreats do more
than you can imagine. They tear down walls of insecurities, they provide
opportunities to find common ground and they create “inside jokes” that
students treasure for a life time. They open windows to teachable opportunities
that can transform a life.
Memories are made. Friendships are deepened. Spirits are
refreshed. All because of a momentary diversion from the norm. What some call
silly games, one might see as divine opportunities.
Truly, in everything we do, we have an opportunity to do
with God. He is always with us and wants us to enjoy His presence. Having fun
with a community of believers and encouraging one another, whether through a
game, a service project, or a missions trip, will help us draw closer to our
God.
And God said, “My presence will go with you, and I
will give you rest.” (Exodus 33:14 ESV)
